"In recent years there have been excellent one-man exhibitions of the major Pre-Raphaelite artists but no really comprehensive exhibition has ever been devoted to Pre-Raphaelite painting as such. In mounting the present exhibition we have tried to bring together as many as possible of the essential works of the movement so as to give a more complete account than has been possible in the past.
