This text is based on standards in the AMATYC Crossroads document. The first in a three-book series, this text presents mathematical concepts and skills through relevant activities derived from real-life situations. These activities are meaningful because they illustrate how mathematics arises naturally from real-world situations and problems. Prealgebra Problem Solving is based on the assumption that you learn mathematics best by deriving concepts themselves in a meaningful context. Therefore, the text takes a collaborative approach to learning. Take an active role in your own learning by working in groups, thereby developing communication skills, a sense of independence, and a "can-do" attitude about mathematics. Technology is integrated throughout the book as appropriate so that you learn to interpret real-life data numerically and symbolically. Though the book is driven by the activities, there is a significant amount of practice of skill-based content through the many "Skills Checks," "What Have I Learned?" and "How Can I Practice?" exercises.

Kirsch [ 179 , 180 ] amended the linear sampling method to close this gap . In particular , he showed that ( F * F ) g = 0 * ( 5,2 ) ( 4.82 ) has a solution if and only if z E 12. Imaging using ( F * F ) , has become known as the ...

In short, this is material that many of us wish we had been taught as graduate students. Roughly the first third of the book covers the basic material of a first course in linear algebra.
Different from most math books, this series teaches through activities--encouraging students to learn by constructing, reflecting on, and applying the mathematical concepts.
