This anthology includes 179 poets published by university presses in recent years. It seeks to provide a rich overview of the best contemporary American poetry irrespective of publisher, age of poet, aesthetic program, or current status in the literary canon; to celebrate the work of university presses in discovering and supporting that poetry; and to suggest some questions about American poetry--its democratization, canonization, aesthetics, politics, and sociology. The volume includes brief histories of poetry publishing at each press, their poetry lists, and an essay on the American poetry scene of the last 20 years.
