Description

An in-depth psychological study, this book explores the unconscious mechanisms which contribute to the creation and perpetuation of a son who is dwarfed by his mother's inability to see him as a separate individual. This type of excessive mothering leads to men being popularly referred to as "mamma's boys." Based on research with 100 mothers and sons, this book has identified a phenomenon called "mamma's boy syndrome." During interviews with mothers and their sons, the author recorded their experiences, feelings and insights in an attempt to expose their unconscious and conscious needs, motivations and perversions (in the psychoanalytic sense) which move a mother to handicap her son in this way. The book is intended as a guide for practising counsellors and carers to enable them to deal with this widespread and dysfunctional condition.
