That asserting it to be true, and perceiving it to be a system of truth, are two very different things. That the whole fabric is based on deception; and that Joe Smith and his three principal confederates, were base deceivers that their victims giving a. Credulous assent to their testimony, do not perceive its truth, but only imagine it to be true, and that impelled by a law of their moral nature to receive the testimony of others - and not guarding that tendency with the requisite care and attention, imagination lends its creative aid, and becomes the fruitful iparent of error, in feigning a history that never had a basis on facts, and a system of religion without a Deity for its author.
