Description

This study investigates and identifies the problem access to affordable health care in the United States. Approximately 46 million Americans are classified as uninsured currently. The results of the study indicate that although the United States spends roughly 15% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on health care expenditures, much more than any other nation, the health outcomes do not reflect a superior system. The findings also reveal that several attempts have been made since the Johnson administration to remedy this problem, both on a federal and state level. The ultimate goal is to institute a public-private partnership on a federal level, which would increase access to affordable health care, and in turn save the taxpayers billions of dollars that were previously misallocated to helping fund the medical expenses of the uninsured. Implications for improving health care in the United States on a systemic level are discussed.
