Princess Adele is the heir to the British Empire. Or at least what is left of it. But the tropics have been safe, until now. The airship carrying Adele to her marriage in Cairo is attacked and overwhelmed by Vampires and her younger brother, Simon, is spirited away. Adele is determined to follow him and falls in with the mysterious scourge of Vampires, the Greyfriar. Together they travel first to the massive abbatoir of London and then North to the shadows of Scotland in a desperate bid to recover Simon. And there they find that war is brewing. A war to overthrow the last vestiges of human power and establish a global Vampire Empire . . .
