Description

"Salvaged" is a real-life story, as reported through memoirs, showing how a neglected young boy, born in 1936, was able to develop a wholesome and productive life, because of his faith and trust in God's love for him, expressed through a continually grateful response. The theme in this book is that God is always working in our lives to create, restore, preserve and protect the personal value that He creates in us, and, if we show a desire for His presence, His enrichment of our lives. The plot of this real drama is God's faithful rescue, restoration and protection of the central character, Little David, as a child, youth, and David, as an adult, in the many challenges that threaten David's personal value and life. God's intervention comes through the Christian love of certain people in David's life, and as a direct response to David's prayers. The title of this book, Salvaged," draws a parallel between the type of work that God does in David's life, and the type of work that David found necessary and available for his own survival through marine salvage. Marine salvage work requires seeing the value of things that have been neglected and lost, and then, caring enough to raise them from the dark and muddy grave of the sea, to be restored to new life and usefulness in some form, somehow preserving their original value. This is the work of the "Salvor." In terms of God's relationship with us, this is also the work of the "Savior."Besides communicating a religious and inspirational theme, this book is also intended to entertain and instruct through the many stories shared by David himself. David's enterprises, adventures, and sometimes mischievous escapades, flow from his creative independence, imagination, resourcefulness, and sense of humor. Little David is easily characterized as "Puget Sound's Tom Sawyer." The story of David's life events should be entertaining reading for anyone, especially youth and young adults, who might have had similar experiences. Notable throughout David's life is not only his playfulness, but his ability to win as the "underdog."
