By 游偉翔上帝的存在不需要證明，只需要一場賭博！不只是數學家與物理學家！帕斯卡在神學和哲學上均有極高的造詣，信仰有罪嗎？誰能夠證明上帝不存在？如果無法證明，信仰又為何被汙名化？帕斯卡英年早逝，在他身後，其手稿被編為《思想錄》出版，與培根的《論人生》、蒙田的《隨筆集》並稱為西方三大經典散文。那些對信仰、人性、道德、懷疑、欲望、權力……的探討，最終都歸為那一句——人因為思想而偉大。▍帕斯卡的賭注——上帝存在嗎？帕斯卡：「讓我們權衡一下賭上帝存在這一方面的得失吧！讓我們估計這兩種情況：假如你贏了，你就贏得了一切；假如你輸了，你卻一無所失。」因為無法證明上帝存在與否，所以得出以下推斷：倘若上帝不存在，而你信仰上帝，那只會有一小部分損失；倘若上帝存在，你卻不信仰上帝，那將會墜入無盡的深淵。▍說甜言蜜語的人，其實品行惡劣？帕斯卡：「用對仗拼湊詞語的人，就像為了對稱而製作假窗戶的人，他們的規則不是要正確地講述，而是要擺出正確說話的樣子。」文字的不同排列產生了不同的意義，而意義的不同排列便有了不同的效果；意義從字詞中獲得它的尊嚴，而不是賦予字詞尊嚴。「撲滅叛亂的火焰」——太雕琢。「他那天才的激盪」——兩個太誇張的字眼。「我的心深感不安」——本人深感不安更好一點。「請原諒」——如果沒有這麼一句客氣話，我可能根本不知道有什麼事情出了錯。「我想帶著敬仰之情說……」——唯一不好的就是他們的藉口。▍人類喜歡偽裝，喜歡謊言和虛假？帕斯卡：「很少有人是在謙卑地談論謙卑的，很少有人是在貞潔地談論貞潔的，很少有人是在懷疑中談論懷疑的……我們在向自己隱瞞自己並矯飾自己。」人類不願意別人對自己說真話，也避免向別人說真話；而這些遠離正義與理智的品性，都在心底有著一種天然的根源。▍人類的兩種思維模式——數理思維與直覺思維習慣於憑感覺下判斷的人不理解推理的過程，因為他們往往看一眼就理解，並不習慣於追求原理；而習慣於根據原理推斷的人不明白感覺上的事情，因為他們尋求原理，卻沒有一眼看透的能力。★本書特色布萊茲．帕斯卡（Blaise Pascal，西元1623～1662年），十七世紀法國著名的數學家、物理學家、發明家、哲學家、散文大師和宗教聖徒式的人物。研究領域橫跨數學、物理、發明、文學等，在這些領域中皆有受人矚目的功績。其作《思想錄》涉及人性、人生、社會、哲學、宗教等諸多方面，被視為法國古典主義散文的奠基之作，闡述人們雖有感悟卻無法道盡的哲理。
