Description

Morris's journal takes the reader from St. Louis to the Colorado Rockies in the summer of 1863. He had intended to travel by steamer up the Missouri to Fort Benton and the Montana gold fields. The boat broke down at St. Joseph, however the author changed his destination to Denver, where he spent several months before returning to the Atlantic states (Wagner-Camp 404). The author identifies himself on the title page as the "Late Deputy Postmaster-General of Jamaica". His other books include a tour of Portugal and several accounts on field sports in Ireland.
