The atrial valve of my heart continues to malfunction, reducing the inefficiency of that vital organ and thus greatly lessening my available energy. Although some of my physical pains have been dealt with satisfactorily, others have emerged or become worse. For a long time in recent months, I thought I was close to death. ... A lot of these poems are witty, for wit has always been a good defense against despair for me and many of them are comments on the work of artists in various media, for concentrating my mind on masterpieces means concentrating my mind above and beyond pain."--Description from the Author's introduction.
