Before daybreak, market standholders 3set up2 -- unpacking and displaying the meat, produce, breads and pies, cheeses, spices, flowers, plants, baskets and homemade crafts that draw the market1s neighbors, as well as food lovers from far and near. When a second-generation standholder had the inspiration, the rest of the standholders began putting on paper the ingredients and procedures for preparing the foods they know so well. Recipes for more than 300 dishes are included, with colorful memories and photos of longtime standholders.
