Description

As a companion volume to their widely-read College and University Student Work Programs the authors have prepared this manual of student job classifications.

In their Introduction they note that some type of student job classification is necessary whether a university or college employs a small or a large number of students. A school's system may range from simply a job title for payroll purposes to a highly developed multiple-purpose plan. Withal, the authors point out, the practical necessities require that the classification plan employed shall be the basis for hourly rates, occupational group regulations, promotions, merit increases, and bonus rates for after-hours or special work-hour occupations.

To assist student work offices and other administrators responsible for employing student workers, the authors have developed this comprehensive classification plan. The plan groups jobs into five major occupational divisions.

A list of the individual jobs by code number and job title is included under each occupational group. In addition, each job title has a job description--the characteristics of the job, duties required; responsibilities entailed, qualifications (basic and desirable) required, and length of training period needed for performance of the job.
