Cedric Mayson was born in England but went to South Africa in 1953 as a Methodist minister. A Certain Sound tells the story of how Mayson's faith changed once he confronted life in South Africa, how his faith led him into the struggle against apartheid and sustained him when his once enthusiastic congregation retreated in fear of the Security Police. Tried for high treason, Mayson was forced to flee the torture and imprisonment that awaited him if he stayed in South Africa ... At the end of the book, Mayson describes his continued effort to battle apartheid from his London exile and makes an urgent plea to all Westerners to join him. (from back cover of book).
