Description

While the Fire Society realizes its goals cannot be achieved by revolution, it intends to seize control of selective state governments under the guise of conflict resolution. Before the federal government can respond, the new Confederacy plans to demand a public vote disputing the country's forced union, assuming the price to rein in the insurgents will simply be too high for the government to pay. Will brother really fight brother again? John Flynn, an investigative reporter, is drawn into the plot as he begins to question the motive behind the racial violence surrounding the presidential campaign. With his increasing exposure to the Southern aristocracy, Flynn begins to link the aristocracy and racial violence to an insurrection against the United States government. He gradually exposes the plot, involving the FBI and uncovering a shadow government.
