This book explores the effect of State Aboriginal legislation and policies imposed on indigenous populations and the extraordinary efforts made by missions to alleviate some of the suffering in the Kimberley. Included is a 1935 letter written by a courageous woman of mixed descent in Broome, pleading for freedom from the weight of the prohibitive legislation. Overall the book attempts to change the way the readers perceive not only the problems depicted in it, but also their attitude to the victims.
