Shortly before noon on October 9, 1980, a natural gas explosion shook Simon Kenton High School in Independence, Kentucky. A second explosion happened within an hour, while firefighters fought the blaze from the first. Half the school was gone. This story is about a community, led by the boys' varsity baskeball team and their coaches, rising up from the loss of their high school and the death of a classmate to seek an emotional resurrection on the basketball court. The team's, the school's and the towns' journey from despair to triumph symbolizes the purity and importance of high school athletics for a community.
