This book includes mini-lessons, examples of teacher and student compositions developed and used throughout thirty years of teaching language and composition to students. It has provided young writers with a guide that is easy to follow and entertaining to read. THE WRITER'S VOICE also includes models and examples of essays and poetry written by students and the teacher/author. The "18 Lessons to Improve Writing" grew organically FROM real classrooms of "struggling writers," and was written BY students FOR students in easy to understand language in an easy to follow structure. Many books/textbooks contain ideas, techniques and strategies to improve writing. However, few of them include a complete course in writing, from "Getting Started: Finding a Voice," to "Building a Portfolio: the Voice of Self-Appraisal." Few of them include information about how to develop all four modes of writing (narrative, descriptive, expository and argumentation), and how to write film criticism, satire, poetry, synthesis and evaluation essays, ways to develop vocabulary and information about the history of the English language.
