This book differs from other thermodynamics texts in its objective which is to provide engineers with the concepts, tools, and experience needed to solve practical real-world energy problems. The presentation integrates computer tools (e.g., EES) with thermodynamic concepts to allow engineering students and practising engineers to solve problems they would otherwise not be able to solve. The use of examples, solved and explained in detail, and supported with property diagrams that are drawn to scale, is ubiquitous in this textbook. The examples are not trivial, drill problems, but rather complex and timely real world problems that are of interest by themselves. As with the presentation, the solutions to these examples are complete and do not skip steps. Similarly the book includes numerous end of chapter problems, both typeset and online. Most of these problems are more detailed than those found in other thermodynamics textbooks. The supplements include complete solutions to all exercises, software downloads, and additional content on selected topics. These are available at the book web site www.cambridge.org/KleinandNellis.
This hands-on guide helps you score your highest in a thermodynamics course by offering easily understood, plain-English explanations of how energy is used in things like automobiles, airplanes, air conditioners, and electric power plants.
Presents essential ideas on critical phenomena developed over the last decade in simple, qualitative terms. This new edition maintains the simple structure of the first and puts new emphasis on pedagogical considerations.
Emphasizes a pedagogical approach to the subject Highlights connections with the thermodynamics of information Pays special attention to molecular biophysics applications Privileges physical intuition over mathematical formalism Solutions ...
The critical temperature for methane is 191 K and the Boyle temperature is 506 K. 1 The virial coefficients are numbered such that Bi is the coefficient of V–im in the expression for p/RT. This can also be written p/kBT ...
This book is directed toward sophomore, junior, and senior students who have studied elementary physics and calculus and who are majoring in mechanical engineering; it serves as a convenient reference for other engineering disciplines as ...
Master the principles of thermodynamics, and understand their practical real-world applications, with this deep and intuitive undergraduate textbook.
A Handbook Of Thermodynamics
The book presents a clear and simple exposition of thermodynamic principles to enable beginners to penetrate its fundamental ideas buried under a haze of abstractness and to appreciate the logical development of thermodynamic reasoning.
This book will appeal to graduate students and professional chemists and physicists who wish to acquire a more sophisticated overview of thermodynamics and related subject matter.
