In this dissertation, I examine the fabrication, distribution, and use of Danish Modern furniture design in Denmark and the United States between 1945 and 1960. Approaching Danish design as both a local development and a global phenomenon, I trace and analyze how the furniture figured the interrelationship between politics of consumption and discourses of modernism during the early years of the Cold War.
