James Verity was born in Brooklyn in 1925. Raised in a large Irish Catholic family, Jim was introduced to religion at an early age. This introduction quickly grew into a strong and personal relationship with both God and the Church. At a very early age, Jim knew he wanted to be a Passionist Priest. At only fourteen, he left home, traveled over 400 miles to Dunkirk, New York, and began to prepare for the priesthood. This memoir tells Jim’s story. It tells his story as a Religious and as a man. It describes his journey – from his decision to enter the seminary, to his decision to leave the active ministry, almost thirty years later. It recalls the challenges he faced when his decision to marry and start a family was interpreted by some as a rejection of the faith and Church that meant so much to him. And, it recounts how he never stopped searching for ways to serve his God. This memoir chronicles the life of a man with a remarkable spiritual gift and an exceptionally close relationship with God.
