Throughout my life I have suffered with heavy bouts of depression, a lowness of discomfort that has dominated my insides, and affected each and every day of my existence. These were broken by bouts of happiness that would last for days and even weeks accompanied by high levels of extreme energy. The constant ups and downs overwhelmed my inner core until one day, while on active duty in the United States Army it exploded, and the truth was revealed. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type 1, and my suffering was no longer silent. Suffering in Silence documents, through years of poetry, journal entries and autobiographical short stories, the trials and tribulations of bipolar disorder and how its power once dominated my life and almost destroyed my existence. Through medication, psychotherapy, and the writing of this book, I have begun to reestablish my own place in the world and beat this disease. I will no longer stay quiet and hold it all in, and I will no longer suffer in silence. *Note: When reading the journal entries you may see some typo's as these entries are left in their original form as they are intended to be.
