Description

Corruption often goes unpunished in South Africa where political connections, corrupt officials and pay offs ensure that investigations get sidelined, evidence gets lost and the painstakingly slow legal system gets used to the advantage of the offenders. Circumstances compel retired assassin and ex SAS soldier, Mike Fraser, to do something about the number of corrupt officials and businessmen flaunting the law. Delving into the meticulously researched cases of his investigative journalist girlfriend, Elizabeth Shaw, and with the assistance of a computer hacker, the Wizard, he produces a list of eighty people guilty of a number of crimes. The list of people is sent to a newspaper with a list of demands and the threat that if the demands are not met, people on the list will be assassinated. The threat is not taken seriously until the killings start. The action moves from the northern suburbs of Johannesburg to the idyllic island of Mauritius, to the majestic foothills of Table Mountain and the beautiful Durban beachfront, to a game farm in the North-west province and Mike Fraser's own game farm in the far north-west corner of South Africa. Although a work of fiction, the issues are real and corruption, which extends into the highest echelons of government, often goes unpunished. The real issues provide an excellent setting for this work of fiction but it would be a sad day if an individual felt compelled to resort to this type of action. Some believe it is justified. "To oppose corruption in government is the highest obligation of patriotism." G. Edward Griffin.
