The Presidential election of 2012, much like its 2008 predecessor, was a historic, watershed moment in American politics, although for markedly different reasons than exist in the actual data. As previously discussed, the race, to careful observers, appeared already decided in favor of President Obama more than a month before Election Day, a fact now borne out by the results. What makes this election historic and intriguing, however, is not the demographic detail of the man or his winning electorate, or even the record-breaking and corruptive hidden expenditures for the position of President, but rather the opportunity the country now has to be reborn a better whole. The President may not have won by an extreme margin, but his majority win is notable for its clear decisiveness - especially when compared to typical, modern American politics - and the mantle of a political mandate has, therefore, been adopted. It is through such a mandate that some of the greatest accomplishments in American history have come to be, under some of the similarly greatest of American Presidents. (A missive by Kyle Brady.)
