Description

THE TRESPASSER is D.H. Lawrence's second novel, and as one of his earlier works. Today, it remains practically unknown. The story involves the tragic love affair of Helen Corke and her former violin tutor. Corke, in real life, was a acquaintance of D.H. Lawrence. The story itself, is taken from of Helen Corke diaries. D.H. Lawrence, initially requested to Helen Corke to write the book, but finally agreed for Lawrence to write it himself. The plot follows Helena Verden's affair with her ex-violin teacher, Siegmund MacNair. Although their affair is largely non-sexual, it is intense and intimate. Siegmund, ultimately couldn't leave his wife and children for Helen, and neither can the Helen give herself to him completely. This leads to Siegmund's suicide. A year after Siegmund's death, Helen meets Cecil Byrne, another would-be suitor and turns to him for comfort.
