In an effort to protect Armand's name and status, Marguerite makes a daring sacrifice that leaves him yearning for closure and peace. Camille is arguably Alexandre Dumas' most celebrated work. Shortly after its publication, it was adapted into a stage play, followed by an opera called La Traviata. This success also led to more than 20 film adaptations starting in 1915. The heartbreaking story has stood the test of time and continues to reinvent itself for new generations.
