Simple directive. Stop a steadfast mastermind from freeing his lover and keep his murdering hands off yours. While hiding just a block away from detectives Jerry Hadley and Paul Fredricks, wealthy contract killer Emil Porcelli spends years plotting to free Miguel Sanchez, his lover and co-conspirator, from prison. He's willing to exhaust his fortune and kill or be killed to deal with whoever gets in the way. He starts by committing multiple murder and mayhem just to get the attention he needs. Before he's done, he will use multiple vehicles including cranes, buses and snowmobiles, powerful explosives, computer trickery, elaborate disguises, and ballsy deceit. Porcelli he gets right in the thick of things, ordering misleading raids and advocating for Miguel's release. Things get personal when Porcelli, because of their long history, designates Jerry to facilitate his demands. It goes from bad to worse when Porcelli captures Paul's wife and police pathologist Dr. Ellen Mankin, Jerry's girlfriend. The women are held in a fourth-floor icy basement to be exchanged at dawn on a windswept snowy plain. Jerry and Paul battle their bosses, bitter cold, and blinding snow storms as they fight to bring the master criminal down before he and Miguel escape the country in a stolen bus. Jerry refuses to let this maniac slip away again.
