At first glance, domestic violence and religion appear diametrically opposed to each other; however, upon closer examination, it is clear that the leaders who are responsible for corporate lifestyle direction have a unique opportunity to begin the discussion of this contagious (if unaddressed) issue. The fact that individuals in the religious community bring with them their complexities and issues, religious leaders must be comfortable with this type of discussion. Victims, batterers and bystanders make up the religious congregations addressed on a regular basis. The very place where we teach and learn of stewardship, discipleship and fellowship should be the place where these three categories of people can receive assistance. Religious leaders are challenged to become knowledgeable and comfortable with the dissemination of the information that may save the lives of the abused, change the lives of the batterers and strengthen the resolve of the bystanders.
