As a young couple with two babies, we were suddenly facing the challenge of our lifetimes. Joy Sue, in the beginning of her life as a young mother, was struck down in a hospital by a life-changing event that should never have taken place. Not only was her life changed forever, but mine also. This is our story of how we have lived our lives, while meeting the challenge that has always been before us. Although we have been at a disadvantage, we have pressed on in pursuit of as much of a normal life as possible, and we have maintained a quality of life that has been better than most people expected. Life has been a challenge for us from the beginning of our marriage; determination, a lot of effort, and our faith in God have helped us meet the challenge.
