Description
Annie not only struggles with chronic kidney disease but also has to deal with her father's suicide. She sees her father as weak and does not understand his drastic solution to the pain of being a Vietnam Veteran. Her doctor, who has been treating her since she was nine years old, becomes her confidant and father figure. She cannot resolve her feelings of anger and despair over losing the father she once idolized and now inwardly hated for leaving them. When she meets Joe she comes to admire his determination and ""nothing is going to stop me"" attitude. He wants to be a doctor, and when he goes off to California to study, Annie is faced with some decisions that will affect her for the rest of her life.
