In James letter to early Christians, he said, "22But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like." (James 1:22-24, NLT) As you read the book and use this study guide, spend time reading and meditating on the Word, not just the verses in the book and guide. Read them in context with whom the audience is, who is speaking, and what overall topic or subject matter is being covered. Pray and let the Holy Spirit help you comprehend the verses. Imagine yourself as being there. You may read the same scripture several times and get several different messages from it. That is why the author of Hebrews says, "12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." (Hebrews 4:12, NLT) Born in Seagoville, Texas, Ken attended Stephen F. Austin State University in East Texas. Over the next 2 decades, he alternated careers between the Air Force in the Air Rescue and Recovery Service and, as a civilian, the tree care industry. He taught high school science, boy's and men's ministries, and airline classes and has lived many places. He has walked the Christian walk for over 40 years. "Been there, done that!" From that experience and God's direction come these books.
