許多論者都在推測習近平是否真心信仰毛澤東的理念。習近平自上位後頻頻引用毛澤東思想論述，走訪與毛相關的地標，並且重新提倡毛 “群眾路線”的概念，讓人覺得他實際上就是一個“新毛澤東主義者”。


不少中國人則認為，中國要想有進一步的發展，只有在將毛澤東從神壇拉下來後才有可能實現。


支持習近平的人認為，習近平在毛澤東誕辰120週年座談會上的講話，顯示中共正在歷史中找尋具實用性的意義，以支撐國家未來更大的目標，以延續共產黨的統治。習的談話，讓我們逐漸釐清了某些重點：在習近平的統治下，毛澤東主義將不會復甦；也不會有薄熙來倒台前的那些“唱紅”事件，中國新一代的領導人將不避諱地強調毛澤東的“嚴重錯誤”。


但是，集所有大權於一身的習近平，怎麼看都有毛澤東的影子。
