Reborn: Journeys from the Abyss is a saga of a doctor who immigrated to America because of an official policy of racial and ethnic discrimination under a dictatorial socialist regime in Burma. He realized his lifelong dream of becoming a plastic surgeon at the University of Pennsylvania because of a friendship between his father and an American surgeon-colonel in the India-Burma-China theater during World War II . Salvation from this first abyss is described vividly, which was aided by fate and fortune that led to settling in Erie to achieve the American Dream. He was again plunged into a second abyss upon retirement when he faced a life-threatening disease, which he managed to survive through grit, prayer, and excellent medical care. Since recovery, he observed the country he loves being again taken to the brink of falling into an abyss from political mismanagement, and thus decided to participate in the political process to possibly help prevent the country's descent. This is a story of moral and physical salvation, which is a true American story seen through the eyes of an immigrant.
