Wounded was written based on my series of "why" questions. As a nation and a people, we are sometimes guilty of looking at each other's present (current situations, dilemmas and symptoms). We then form lasting impressions, criticisms and opinions without hesitation or questioning what could have led to "this" behavior or action. This way of thinking and/or practice often times creates ideas that are categorically incorrect. Thus, Wounded is intentionally intended to make you question why. Why has "this" taken place in our society? What could have caused this person to react in this way at this time? What have we missed or could we have done differently (and collectively) to prevent "this" reaction? Surprisingly, the answer could have been as simple as taking notice of someone else or speaking a word of encouragement to a stranger whose world just may be spiraling out of control... Wounded is about a young woman who is facing adversity at every angle. From her hours spent at home to the days invested in school, she is looking for love and acceptance but would describe herself as vanished on a daily basis. She is consistently faced with twist, turns, downward spirals and jabs that plague her as dysfunctional, detached, and morbidly pessimistic. Coincidentally, it also makes Wounded a phenomenal read. Destiny is, in fact, a fictional character but the dilemmas that she is confronted with are realistic and symbolic as the challenges that we see blasted on "breaking news" reports. She is the muffled cry of a multitude of silenced yet broken people that are hurting today.
