Description

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The two-cell, two-gonadotrophin theory states that at the beginning of the cycle, the outer theca cells can only be stimulated by LH and produce androgens, while the inner granulosa cells can only be stimulated by FSH. Androgens diffuse toward the inner layer granulosa cells, where they are converted into estradiol by FSH-stimulated aromatase. #2 The menstrual cycle is controlled by the ovarian hormones estrogen and progesterone. The corpus luteum, which forms after ovulation, produces progesterone, which suppresses the release of FSH. If the corpus luteum is not rescued by HCG produced by the implanted trophoblast, it will undergo programmed atresia. #3 Some women find regular menses reassuring, positive, natural or important evidence that they are still capable of reproducing. However, many women dislike their periods. #4 The Mirena IUD is the most effective medical therapy for heavy menstrual bleeding. It decreases cramping and menstrual blood loss by 90 to 95 percent. It is also effective at preventing pelvic infections, endometrial cancer, and dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
