Description

*** ALL PROCEEDS TO BE DONATED TO THE ALS ASSOCIATION *** In this heartfelt memoir that truly spans the globe, Dr. Tom Peter recalls stories from his life starting in the southern Indian state of Kerala as he moves away from home at the age of seventeen. His first destination is the ancient holy city of Banaras where the odds are against him not only getting into medical school but also graduating given all the various distractions and experiences only university hostel life can offer. The charmed railways of India will then transport this young man from Cochin to the dense metropolis of '60s Bombay where he will work at one of the country's most illustrious hospitals and gather stories and friendships that will endure for decades. An improbable opportunity abroad will carry him away from his country's shores to a hotbed of Cardiology and novel culture in Australia and New Zealand during an era that could be complicated at times for an Indian man. Trans-Tasman exploits springboard him even farther away from his homeland and new wife to the famed Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills to help expand the boundaries of Cardiology while trying to solve the day's clinical conundrums. After settling in and flourishing in his new home of Los Angeles, he will travel the world in the hopes that patients everywhere may benefit from what modern Cardiology can offer. Now living with ALS and solely through the use of an eye-controlled word processor, Dr. Peter recounts some of his life's most cherished memories and pays tribute to the individuals who have shaped him. A world-renowned expert in Electrophysiology and an Emeritus Professor at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, he lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife Sarah. Now living with ALS and solely through the use of an eye-controlled word processor, Dr. Peter recounts some of his life's most cherished memories and pays tribute to the individuals who have shaped him.
