These Story Cards are based on the original text and illustrations created for The Three Billy Goats Gruff written by mary Finch and Illustrated by Roberta Arenson published by Barefoot Books in 2001. Story Cards follow a traditional Japanese style of storytelling called Kamishibai, which literally translates as 'paper drama'. Kamishibai men would travel by bicycle from village to village, selling sweets and telling stories. On arrival, the Kamishibai man would strike two wooden blocks called Hyoshigi to announce his presence and gather the children. He would tell his stories using a set of illustrated cards, changing voices and dramatizing the text. Popular in the first half of the 20th century it fell out of favour in the 1950s with the arrival of television. Contents: 12 story cards and 1 teacher's booklet.
