Description

Sweet Freedom is dedicated to all impoverished people who yearn for freedom; from the shackles of oppression, exploitation and human degradation. It is a story written with a deep human introspection, set in Ghana. It is a historic milestone which has cascaded down, globally to the mainstream of Africa's contemporary emancipation as well as the Diaspora. This period is characterised by intensive political manoeuvres, championed by Kwame Nkrumah and his 'veranda boys' against colonial rule. In the morning, on the day of independence, March 6, 1957, Odenke's twin-mother, Akwele, prepares a symbolic traditional meal for him. The poor and suffering will never go hungry and bare-footed again after freedom has been attained. In a series of invocations, extolling the appellations of the Almighty, Supreme-Rain God, Ataa Na Nyongmo and some of the African Deities and Kings, Wulomo, the revered Priest, eventually subdues Brown, the stooge. Brown capitulates in his savage endeavours to render his own people homeless. At the Polo Ground, history is being brewed for posterity. Kwame Nkrumah and his henchmen mount the podium to harvest the historical fruits of Sweet Freedom for the ordinary people to fill their shrinking tummies. This is an extraordinary, inspirational and awe-striking story for generations and with a universal appeal for different cultures.
