This text examines whether disadvantages such as childhood poverty, lack of educational qualifications and unemployment combine to create a situation of poverty and exclusion more extreme than that produced by any one disadvantage on its own. By providing an analysis of the way in which disadvantages combine and interact, the book increases an understanding of the processes that lead to the extreme marginalization experienced by certain groups in Irish society.
