Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, né le 14 juin 1928 en Argentine, débarque à Cuba fin 1956, aux côtés de Fidel Castro et de quatre-vingts compagnons d'armes, pour combattre le dictateur Batista. Après la victoire des Barbudos en janvier 1959, celui qui a reçu le surnom de guerrillero heroico pour sa bravoure et sa science du combat, occupe des postes-clés à la tête de l'Etat. Mais il n'a jamais abandonné l'idée de la lutte armée et, après avoir parcouru le monde pour plaider la cause de la révolution cubaine, El Comandante initie clandestinement la révolution au Congo en 1965, puis en Bolivie, où il est capturé et exécuté le 9 octobre 1967, à La Higuera, sur les contreforts andins. Le Che est devenu dès lors un mythe. On connaît moins sa vision médicale alternative. Car si l'éternel agitateur a été un chef de guerre, totalement et exclusivement au service des miséreux de la Pachamama (la Terre Mère des Incas), le docteur Guevara a également été un chef de paix utile, posant son fusil pour un autre combat, celui de la vie et de la survie. Cinquante ans après la mort du Che, Jean Cormier, inlassable passionné et chercheur obstiné, a continué l'enquête. Il dévoile aujourd'hui ses dernières découvertes sur l'atypique parcours du médecin asthmatique. Dans sa postface, substituant au mot révolution le terme de métamorphose, Edgar Morin pose son gravillon sur le chemin : "Aujourd'hui, on doit chercher une nouvelle voie. J'ai développé l'idée d'une métamorphose pour dire qu'au fond, tout doit changer." A nous de continuer à Che-miner.
