Slowdive n'est pas le groupe issu du « Shoegaze » qui a eu le plus de succès, il a certainement été celui qui a eu la plus courte durée de vie et qui a été le plus décrié, mais il reste un des plus touchants et avec le recul un des plus intéressants humainement et artistiquement. Une fin n'est parfois qu'un premier chapitre achevé avant d'en écrire une suite plus longue et plus remplie. Slowdive a su démontrer cela. Alors que le NME recevait des centaines de lettres de lecteurs réclamant littéralement la mort de ses membres et que le groupe n'attirait que le rejet et les railleries des médias, c'est désormais la tendance inverse. Presse et public sont unanimes devant l'émotion et la sincérité qui s'en dégage, reconnaissant l'importance de leur deuxième album Souvlaki, le hissant même aujourd'hui au rang d'album culte d'une génération. En 2020, Slowdive fêtera ses 30 ans d'existence, il était bien temps qu'un ouvrage leur rende hommage en France.
