Le feu est maîtrisé; on fabrique du pain, de la bière et du vin; on invente les premières recettes; les repas se transforment en banquets; le sucre, le chocolat ou le café envahissent l’Europe; les Britanniques découvrent le champagne; en Chine et aux États-Unis, on se fait la guerre pour une tasse de thé alors qu’ailleurs des interdits alimentaires sont édictés... et, sans que l’on s’en rende vraiment compte, la Terre est surexploitée. L’effet de serre se resserre. La possibilité d’un « Big Crunch » alimentaire est bel et bien réelle...
