Most endocrine diseases, if not treated or controlled, have cardiovascular manifestations. Both GH deficiency and GH excess impair cardiovascular functions, e.g. in patients with acromegaly, who have a shortened life expectancy and increased mortality mostly due to cardiovascular complications in uncontrolled disease. Moreover, Cushing’s syndrome and diabetes are well known for metabolic and cardiovascular manifestations, as well as hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Both adipose tissue and the heart have been increasingly recognized as organs with partially endocrine functions, which produce adipokines and brain natriuretic peptide, respectively, and influence a number of cardiovascular parameters. Primary aldosteronism as a cause for secondary hypertension is still a great challenge to detect and diagnose properly; however, new important discoveries have been made regarding the genetics of this probably underestimated cause of hypertension. Written by distinguished researchers in their respective fields, this book will give both researchers and clinicians an excellent update on all these topics, as well as provide insight into the use of hormones as treatment tools in more controversial areas.
In all, Cardiovascular Endocrinology: Shared Pathways and Clinical Crossroads is a first-of-its-kind title that discusses and summarizes important clinical topics in cardiology and endocrinology.
This book is a valuable resource for the vascular and endocrinology clinical and research communities in need of knowledge from basic science to clinical practice and outcomes.
The book explores how cardiac hormones are changed in various cardiac pathologies and the recent success that has been uncovered in their therapeutic use.
The second part of the volume concerns potential nonadrenal causes of hypertension, such as growth hormone excess or deficiency, primary hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, testosterone deficiency, insulin resistance, obesity ...

For many years now I have devoted much of my time to lecturing and writing on the subject of cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this book I have outlined the development of my approach to this problem.
This book provides complete coverage of DR as a potential marker for CVD in those with diabetes.
This issue of Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics, devoted to Lipids, is edited by Dr. Donald A. Smith.
With a joint endocrinology and cardiology focus, and with the very latest in clinical guidelines from the ADA, EASD, AHA, ASC and ESC, selected highlights include: The role of new biomarkers of cardiovascular disease in diabetes The latest ...
