Auf den Wurzeln des Liebesbegriffes begegnet Bubers Dialogische Philosophie den griechischen Termina Philia und Agape, woraufhin die verschiedenen Verständnisse von Liebe im Vergleich zueinander betrachtet werden. "Liebe ist Verantwortung eines Ich für ein Du: hierin besteht, die in keinerlei Gefühl bestehen kann, die Gleichheit aller Liebenden." Unter diesem einleitenden Zitat wird Bubers Perspektive von Liebe dargelegt und bietet einen Grundstein, um die Lehre Bubers für unser Verständnis von Liebe anschaulicher betrachten zu können.
