Der vorliegende Sammelband »Die verborgene Macht der Scham. Ehre, Scham und Schuld im alten Israel, in seinem Umfeld und in der gegenwärtigen Lebenswelt« kreist um zwei zusammenhängende Fragestellungen: Zum einen fragt er nach der Bedeutung von Schamerfahrung und Schambewältigung in den überlieferungen des alten Israel im Kontext seiner Umweltkulturen, nach etwaigen Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden. Zum anderen fragt er danach, inwiefern antike Texte aus dem alten Israel und seinem Umfeld gegenwärtige Schamerfahrungen widerspiegeln, und inwiefern umgekehrt Einsichten der heutigen Soziologie, Psychologie und Philosophie die Bedeutung von Scham in den antiken Texten besser zu verstehen helfen. Beide Fragestellungen werden, mit Zentren einer Ellipse vergleichbar, miteinander ins Gespräch gebracht: Es wird sowohl nach der Relevanz gegenwärtiger Schamkonzepte für das Verständnis antiker Texte als auch nach der Relevanz antiker Texte für die Versprachlichung gegenwärtiger Schamerfahrung gefragt. Ein interdisziplinär forschender Beitrag zu einem immer aktuellen Thema!
