Description
Gegenstand der Untersuchung soll es sein, die vielfältigen Rollen der Frau in der römischen Arbeitswelt darzustellen. Ausgehend von einem terminologischen Abriss, zumal die antiken Berufsbezeichnungen keineswegs mit den modernen korrespondieren, ja die Anwendung unserer Begriffe «Arbeit» und «Beruf» auf die Antike einen Anachronismus darstellt, bietet die Arbeit eine Übersicht über die unterschiedlichen Funktionen der Frau im Arbeitsprozess, im Kult sowie im Geschäfts- und Familienleben, wobei sich der Bogen der Betrachtungen von der traditionellen Rolle als Matrone über die Frau als Grundbesitzerin und Spekulantin bis zur Schauspielerin, Händlerin, Ärztin, Amme und zum Dienstpersonal spannt. Die Fragestellung basiert insbesondere auf dem epigraphischen Material, juridischen Zeugnissen sowie literarischen Texten in ihrer bunten Palette.
