Um Leni Riefenstahls filmisches und fotografisches Werk ranken sich bis heute zahlreiche Auseinandersetzungen, die von klaren Antinomien gekennzeichnet sind. So werden einerseits die ästhetische Formgebung und die wegweisende Bildgestaltung gepriesen, andererseits die romantische Verkitschung der Spielfilme und vor allem die ideologische Tendenz ihrer Dokumentarfilme kritisiert. Der Band nähert sich innerhalb dieses Spannungsfelds zwischen Form und Inhalt dem Schaffen Riefenstahls aus verschiedenen Perspektiven, inklusive der Frage nach seinen Auswirkungen auf die aktuelle Populärkultur. Hinzu kommen Aspekte, die bislang unterbelichtet geblieben sind, etwa im Hinblick auf die musikalische Untermalung der Filme, auf die tänzerische und erotische Ausstrahlung der Schauspielerin Riefenstahl, auf die unfreiwillige Komik der Dokumentarfilme oder auch auf die Ästhetik ihrer Unterwasserfotografie aus dem Blickwinkel des Tauchers.
