Die "Wende" 1989/90 und der Untergang der DDR war ein prägendes Ereignis für ostdeutsche Biographien, das sich fast unmittelbar auch in der Literatur niederschlug. In Neue Leben, neues Schreiben? wird der Versuch unternommen, das Erleben des Umbruchs, den der Fall der Mauer darstellte, im Abstand von zwanzig Jahren in die deutsche Literaturgeschichte einzuordnen. Zu diesem Zweck untersucht Fabian Thomas die Werke von drei ostdeutschen Schriftstellern aus verschiedenen Generationen, die auf jeweils unterschiedliche Weise ihre Autobiographie und literarisches Schaffen künstlerisch verbinden. Im Vordergrund steht dabei nicht nur die Frage nach Art und Weise der literarischen Verarbeitung, sondern auch nach einer Veränderung des Umgangs mit dem autobiographischen Rohmaterial von 1989/90 mit wachsendem zeitlichen Abstand.
