Die Interessen des einzelnen sind denen der Gemeinschaft untergeordnet. Jedermann hat zu arbeiten; jedermann bekommt Bildung und genießt religiöse Toleranz. Anders als in der Realität der damaligen Zeit sind Grund und Boden gemeinsamer Besitz. Morus war daran gelegen, die ungerechte Chancen-, Macht- und Geldverteilung der realen Welt aufzuheben, die sich damals (wie heute) besonders deutlich abzeichnete. Sein Werk ist der Versuch, einen Weg zur Verteilungsgerechtigkeit aufzuzeigen.
