لقي أدب الأطفال في عصرنا الحديث اهتمامًا واسعًا من جهات عدة، بدءًا بالأسر التي تحرص على زرع بذور الثقافة في أطفالها وإمتاعهم بهذا الأدب، ومرورًا بالجهات الرسمية والخاصة التي اعتمدته وسيلة من الوسائل التربوية المؤثرة، ووصولًا إلى دور النشر والمؤسسات الإعلامية التي تبحث عن النصوص المشوقة للأطفال لتحويلها إلى مطبوعات جذابة، وبرامج تلفازية وإذاعية بارعة، فضلًا عن شركات الألعاب الإلكترونية، التي تتنافس في إنتاج ألعاب مثيرة تجتذب ملايين الأطفال، وتجعل ألعابها خيارهم الأول، وتجني من وراء ذلك الأموال الطائلة.
وقد وضعت الرابطة في برامج عملها الإسهام في تنشيط الإبداع الأدبي المناسب لأطفال الأمة، ومساعدة مبدعيه، ونشرت لعدد منهم قصصًا ومسرحياتٍ ودواوين تحمل رسائل نبيلة للأطفال، وتعزز القيم الإيمانية والوطنية الصحيحة فيهم. واستحثت الدارسين لكتابة بحوث تقويمية وتنظيرية للمنتجات الموجودة، ولما نأمل أن يبدعه الأدباء حاضرًا ومستقبلًا، وعقدت لذلك الندوات والملتقيات الأدبية والنقدية، وأفردت في مجلاتها حيِّزًا واسعًا لهذا الأمر.
وهذا الكتاب الذي تنشره الرابطة ضمن إصداراتها عن أدب الأطفال خطوة في ميدان التقويم والتنظير؛ تقويم نماذج من المنتج الأدبي الموجود، وتنظير القواعد والمقاييس للإبداع الذي تريده لأطفال الأمة، وقد تضمن تسعة عشر بحثًا، في سبعة محاور، وهي في الأصل بحوث قدمت ونوقشت في ندوة موسعة عقدتها الرابطة، واستكتبت لها الباحثين.
